A powerful story- The Last Girl

Image
What an incredible and powerful story!!! I read this book in three days and could barely put it down. There are so many stories untold that need to be told- this is one of them. Nadia is a part of a minority group, the Yazidis, that were caught in the middle of a war torn country and targeted and massacred by the ISIS. I had not heard this on the news, nor read about this on the internet.  It was sombering and cutting to the heart. As I read about her village and culture, it felt a little too much like home, like us. Families following their traditions, work life and social life.  It reminds me how privileged we are with safety while the Yazidis struggle with their very existence. When deeds done in darkness come into the light, their darkness cannot stay. Light prevails. And then the world can be more accountable for what they do know now. "The terrorists didn't think that Yazidi girls would be able to leave them, or that we would have the courage to tell the world

On the other side of the fence

Last week we got the opportunity during lunch break to go over to the other side of the fence and see where Papa gets to learn all day. Our yard actually borders the DLI base so we can see over there and all the different worlds over there, but it was another thing to actually go over there. It is a beautiful base with a beautiful view, and also learning and testing can be stressful, it felt like most people felt honored to be there and be learning so much. Papa is a part of a small classroom of 8 students, and we even got to meet one of his teachers. It has been beautiful weather here, and I've often heard CSA farmers tell me that this is an unusual place because they can grow year round here. It doesn't get too hot, and it doesn't get too cold. We got some rain yesterday, and it was very refreshing!

Along the road..

I've lost track of exactly how long Adriel has been at French, now it just seems like a part of our lives.:) I have been cooking out of my French cookbook recently and thats really fun too! Adriel had his second test and passed all three parts (woohoo!!!). The kids have been enjoying the Nature awareness program and homeschooling has been going well. No great revelations here just letting everyone know we are well and continuing on the journey, Thanks be to God. PS. November means Christmas music is fair game!
